ACINQ\u2019s statement was driven by a recent announcement by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, which cautioned users against engaging in unregistered crypto money-transmitting businesses.\n<\/p>\n<p>Recent announcements from US authorities cast a doubt on whether self-custodial wallet providers, Lightning service providers, or even Lightning nodes could be considered Money Services Businesses and be regulated as such.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 ACINQ (@acinq_co) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/acinq_co\/status\/1783878732865740940?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2024\ub144 4\uc6d4 26\uc77c<\/a><\/p>\n\n<p>The US authorities specifically highlighted self-custodial wallets, which require no know-your-customer procedure, as the primary type of such money-transmitting services. Following the initial message, ACIQN has now<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/acinq_co\/status\/1783878735168507972\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> \ubc1c\ud45c<\/a> the removal of the Phoenix wallet app from all US application stores on May 3rd, 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In preparation. Phoenix Wallet has advised US-based users to empty their wallets. They also advised not to \u201cforce-close\u201d channels to avoid significant on-chain fees.
