But a sticking point of the bill has been related to concerns banking chiefs have over stablecoin yield.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe bill is about 600 pages and there\u2019s only two paragraphs where we\u2019re suggesting tiny surgical edits,\u201d said Nichols.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI do think that the crypto and the banking sectors can coexist. I think we can be the crypto capital of the world and I think we can be the banking capital of the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bill was passed last year by the House of Representatives but has been in deadlock after banking chiefs <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/news\/jpmorgan-chase-ceo-dimon-declares-war\">raised concerns<\/a> over stablecoins and the yield they would potentially pay customers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">America\u2019s biggest crypto exchange, Coinbase, <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/news\/coinbase-says-no-to-clarity-act\">pulled support<\/a> for the bill in January after clashing with banking chiefs who said that earning yield on stablecoins should be banned.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">U.S. banks have said they could lose customers if crypto exchanges offer more attractive products for their deposit base.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Coinbase\u2019s Chief Policy Officer, Faryar Shirzad, this week shrugged off the concerns that the banking lobby has, claiming that top lenders are already adopting crypto technology.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Top U.S. banks \u2014 including JP Morgan and Bank of America \u2014 have expressed interest or already started debuting stablecoin products, which run on blockchain technology.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A new draft circulating last week bans officials and their families from issuing or promoting crypto \u2014 something opposition lawmakers previously had issue with.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GOP lawmakers are pushing Democrats to pass the bill.
