But sometimes, things go wrong. Horribly wrong.<\/p>\n

AI Agent Goes Rogue: Kills Firm\u2019s Database in Seconds<\/h2>\n

Nine seconds \u2013 that\u2019s how much it took one AI agent to literally delete the entire codebase of a company, leaving their users without access to critical data.<\/p>\n

PocketOS, a firm that provides software for car rental businesses, souffert<\/a> a shocking outage over the weekend after an autonomous AI-based agent took erroneous actions, wiping out their entire database and all backups in a total of nine seconds.<\/p>\n

Yesterday afternoon, an AI coding agent \u2014 Cursor running Anthropic\u2019s flagship Claude Opus 4.6 \u2014 deleted our production database and all volume-level backups in a single API call to Railway, our infrastructure provider.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

According to the company\u2019s founder, Jer Crane, they were using Cursor, powered by Claude Opus 4.6, widely considered the most prominent model for coding tasks.<\/p>\n

Crane explained that the agent was working \u201centirely on its own initiative\u201d and decided to fix an existing problem by just deleting the database. They even asked the program to explain why it did it, when it confessed in full and outlined all of the rules that it broke.<\/p>\n

Community Reacts<\/h2>\n

While the event is no doubt devastating for the people involved, the community had mixed reactions, with a lot of the users commenting under the thread pointing out that the main mistake was trusting the AI agent with all those permissions at the same time.<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t just a \u201cbad AI incident\u201d , it\u2019s a textbook enterprise failure across AI, security, and infrastructure design. If anything, the AI agent is just the trigger; the real issue is system design that allowed a single action to wipe everything.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
