Interestingly enough, when he tweeted about his appearance and participation, this triggered a discussion revolving around the specifics behind perimissioned, semi-permissioned, or trusted networks or, at the very least, their categorization as such.<\/p>\n<p>The digital asset researcher going by the X username Anders brought up a question to Schwartz, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/X__Anderson\/status\/1824711607231959295\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">asking<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s your thoughts on XRPL being described as \u201cpermissioned,\u201d \u201csemi-permissioned,\u201d or \u201ctrusted\u201d in a lot of documents from various organizations?<\/p>\n<p>In essence, the term \u201cpermissioned\u201d when used to describe a blockchain, implies a level of centralization, allowing an entity to make decisions and impact the network without going through a majority consensus.<\/p>\n<p>Schwartz replied, saying that arguments of the kind are \u201cnonsense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I think it\u2019s nonsense. A lot of things about blockchains really matter, but how specifically they happen to solve the double spend problem is pretty much irrelevant. Ripple, for example, uses a mechanism <a href=\"https:\/\/xrpl.org\/docs\/concepts\/consensus-protocol\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called<\/a> XRP Ledger Consensus Protocol.<\/p>\n<p>According to the official documents, \u201ceveryone who uses the XRP Ledger can agree on the latest state, and which transactions have occurred in which order. All valid transactions are processed without needing central operator or having a single point of failure.<\/p>\n<p>The question that arises here is what happens when too many participants are unreachable.
